Clicking this button will display an expanded menu of the option buttons, along with a brief description of the options. The options may be run directly from this screen by clicking on their associated button. |
The colours dialog box provides six different methods for selecting colours. With all of the colour options, the chosen colours can be saved to the clipboard, or when called from another option within this program, will pass the colour value back to the calling option. Foreground and background colours can be selected. Clicking the appropriate radio button facilitates switching between these options. In some cases, when the dialog box has been opened from within another option, the user may be restricted to only one of these options. Colour swatches of both foreground and background colours are displayed as a guide to aid in colour matching. Additionally, for each colour, a button is provided to enable the selected colour to be converted to the closest web-safe colour. Many monitors cannot display full 24 bit colours. They arrive at an approximation of the colour by a process called dithering, whereby a number of colours which they are able to display are blended. Web-safe colours are basically colours that the monitors are able to display without dithering. A note about transparent backgrounds:- .gif and .png files can hold images with transparent backgrounds. .jpg cannot render a background transparent. With .bmp files, it is possible to treat a background as transparent. Essentially this is achieved by masking out all pixels with the colour contained in the bottom left-hand pixel of the image. 24 bit colours This option allows any one of the 16,777,216 different colours that are possible with 24 bit colours to be selected. The pixel colours which appear on the screen are generated by altering the intensity of, and combining, 3 basic colours - red, green and blue, each of which occupies 8 bits, and thus can have a value of 0 - 255 ( or 00 - FF in hexadecimal ), where 00 represents none of that colour, and FF represents the full value of that colour. The combined value, often referred to as the RGB value, is therefore 6 characters. Depending on the application, these are usually prefixed with either $ or # to indicate that it is a hexadecimal value. Hence $000000, meaning there is none of any colour, is BLACK, whilst $FFFFFF, meaning there is the full value of all colours, is WHITE. Obviously there are still 8 bits remaining on a 32 bit system. Often referred to as the alpha channel, these can hold additional information, but for the vast bulk of users, are of little interest. This option enables the user to adjust each of these colour values either with a scrollbar, or by entering the desired value, to produce the required colour. HTML colours The original HTML specifications allowed for 16 colours to be referred to by name or a hexadecimal value. These 16 colours ( which happen to be the 16 standard colours in the Windows palette ) are outlined in red on this option ( note RED itself is one of those colours ).
This means that the following two lines of HTML code create the same
effect: Netscape subsequently expanded the number of named colours to 140. This option displays the full 140 named colours. The user may select a colour by clicking on the colour swatches, and the colour name will be highlighted in the colours list box. Alternatively, the colour name can be selected. In both cases, the selected colour's colour swatch is outlined in white. Browser-safe colours As mentioned above, those monitors which use the 256 colour pallette cannot display some colours, so dither other colours to arrive at an approximation of the required colour.
Netscape created a colour palette of 216 colours for the PC, and 256 for the MacIntosh, which can be used without dithering. The PC reserves 40 colours on the palette for colours it requires for other purposes. This option displays the entire 256 browser-safe colour pallette. Simply click on the colour swatch to select the colour. Spectrum colours This option displays a colour spectrum. Clicking anywhere on the spectrum will select the colour at the cursor. Beneath the spectrum panel is a narrow horizontal panel. This displays all the colours on the same row as the selected colour. To the right of the spectrum panel is a narrow vertical panel which displays all the colours on the column as the selected colour. The user can click on these additional panels to fine-tune the colour selection.
Screen pick Use this option to select a colour directly from the desktop. Left click on the small panel on the page, and hold the button down as the cursor is dragged to the required colour. As the cursor is dragged, the area around the cursor is magnified and displayed in the starting panel. This assists in accurate selection of the required pixel. When the cursor is over the required pixel, release the button and the target pixel colour is selected. HSV This colour space allows colours to be selected based on HUE, SATURATION and VALUE ( HSV ), which is a very useful colour selection tool. It is ideal for getting shades of a colour. HUE is the colour tint. SATURATION is the amount of colour present, while VALUE is the level of brightness of the colour. The level of each component may be selected either by moving the slider, or can be entered manually. |

Several types of files store icons embedded in them. With this option, the icons can be extracted and viewed. The user can then make a copy of any of the icons located.
Furthermore, the icons can be used to create buttons if so desired, such
as this one |
With this option, selected images are displayed in the installed browser, along with the image name, width, height and file size.
It is useful for viewing multiple images from a folder all at the same time. |
Thumbnails are basicaly a small representation of an image or picture. This option allows the user to select image files and display thumbnails of their images. It is useful for finding an individual file in a folder which may contain a number of image files. By selecting all the files, then displaying thumbnails of their images, the user can quickly locate the desired file. |
This option simply converts .bmp image files to or from .jpg file types. With version 3.51, an additional feature has been added to this option which allows an image in the Clipboard to be saved to either a .bmp or .jpg file. We have been asked by several people why we do not handle .gif files in this program. The reason is very simple. What many people do not realize is that Unisys hold a controversial patent over the LZW compression algorithm, which is at the heart of the .gif format. And they require payment of a royalty for every copy of a program sold which uses the .gif compression/decompression algorithm. This was the reason for the development of the .png file format, which is free to use, and in many cases far superior to both the .gif and .jpg formats. Given the price that we charge for this program, we do not intend paying a royalty to Unisys, so we have not included any .gif processing. There are many articles on the web about the controversy, but there is a very good article on the subject at http://cloanto.com/users/mcb/19950127giflzw.html The LZW patent apparently now expires around 20th June 2003. However, Unisys have reportedly advised that there are variants and applications pending of the patent to extend cover for an additional 20 years. |

This a small option that simply displays the dimensions of images in an image file, and thumbnails of the images for some file types. |
With this option, the user can select text font from the installed fonts, and test it with entered text. Text and background colours can also be selected. Additionally, uninstalled fonts can be selected and viewed. |
A special character map is displayed to enable HTML special character name and value selection. |
With this option, all or a selected part of the screen can be copied. This feature was used to save a copy of the program's toolbar which was then cut into the individual buttons using the CHOP IMAGES option. |
This is an example
of some text coloured with this option.
Create fancy buttons in seconds with this option. Buttons can be coloured in a single colour such as
To colour this button, a colour swatch
Or take this marble image
And using other pattern mask files supplied with the program, you can create
effects such as Then again, you might want to paste a smaller image on the button like
And if you've just found
To create the individual options buttons images used on this page, the program's toolbar image
was copied from the screen using the SCREEN COPY option. This option was then used to chop the toolbar image into images of the individual buttons. |
Rather than creating text shaded with a single colour, this option allows you to fill the text with either an image from file, or with a range of blended colours.
Whereas the COLOURED TEXT option generates text colours for use in HTML pages, this option colours the text for use in images such as banners etc. |
Although this option has been labelled banner creation, it can be used to quickly create any composite images such as
These can contain text, shapes and images, giving a wide scope to the designer. |
Want to know what hexadecimal 3FD5A is in decimal? This handy little utility converts values entered in binary, octal, decimal or hexadecimal to each of the other numbering systems as you enter it. |
Use this option to display the contents of a file in either ASCII and/or hexadecimal. The programs that come with Windows will only display a file's contents as characters, ignoring those characters it cannot display. With this option, the user can view each byte of the file. This can have a range of uses, such as checking contol characters etc. |
Animated banners are a collection of images or frames which are displayed in sequence to create a perception of movement, just as in motion pictures. This option enables the user to generate the intermediate frames between the start and end images to create several different animation effects including
NOTE: This option DOES NOT create animated banners. It creates the FRAMES which make up an animated banner. A separate Animation program must be used to assemble the frames into the actual animated banner. Animation programs can be found on shareware sites such as www.tucows.com and www.webattack.com |
