File icons extraction option tutorial

Icons may occupy their own file ( with the .ico filename extension ), or can also be embedded within other files such as those with .exe and .dll filename extensions.

Using this option, it is possible to view standalone or embedded icons. They can be extracted, and turned into buttons if desired.



Component descriptions

Button create button - Clicking this button enables a button bearing the icon image to be created.

Select background colour - Clicking this button allows a background colour for the icon button to be selected from the colour selection dialog box.

File icons display - This area displays any icons extracted from the file. In this sample, only one icon has been located within the file. Up to five icons may be displayed here if five or more icons were extracted. Click on the desired icon to select it. The selected icon will be highlighted, and where the background is transparent, will display with a blue background.

Border width button - Click this button to select the border width for the generated icon buton.

Background colour - This displays the colour value selected for the background of the icon button.

File name - This displays the path and name of the file selected.

Created button display - This displays the icon button that is generated.

Inner bevel style button - Select the bevel type for the inner bevel by clicking this button.

Outer bevel style button - Select the bevel type for the outer bevel by clicking this button.

Bevel width button - Select the width of the bevels by clicking this button.


To create the above button:-

1. Click File, Open. Locate and select this program file MWToolboxzz.exe ( where zz is the version number of your copy ). Any icons extracted are displayed in the File icons display panel. In this case there is only one embedded icon.

2. At this point, you can save the selected icon ( in this case the only one ) to file by selecting File, Save Icon to file, or to the clipboard by selecting File, Copy Icon to clipboard.

3. To create a button bearing the icon image, click the Button create button. A button bearing the icon will be displayed in the Created button display panel.

4. Click the Select background colour button and enter the background colour A52A2A ( or click brown in the HTML colour selection tab ).

5. Click the Border width button and select 3.

6. Click the Bevel width button and select 4.

7. Click the Inner bevel style button and select Raised.

8. Click the Outer bevel style button and select Raised.

And that's it. The generated button image can be saved to file by clicking File, Save Button image to file, or to the clipboard by clicking File, Copy Button to clipboard.
